Natascha J.A. Rodenburg

Natascha J.A. Rodenburg is a Dutch-New Zealand sculptor and artist. She was born in the Netherlands in 1968 to parents of Dutch, German and Slovenian descent.

In 1992 she completed her training in sculpture and art history at the Academie Beeldende Kunsten in Maastricht, the Netherlands (a Dutch Tertiary Education Institution). She received the ‘Academie Prijs 1992’ after completing her studies. While studying she got involved in tai chi and chi kung and she taught herself to integrate these disciplines as a training program for her future work. She moved to Amsterdam and took part in several group exhibitions, through which her work was shown in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Russia. She also became involved in the Performance Arts.

After the death of both her parents, she moved to New Zealand in 1996 with her future husband. There they built a gaff rigged, steel hulled yacht which was launched in 1997. At the same time, from 1996 until 2000, she worked as a sculpture tutor.

Until 2006, they lived on the boat and sailed the Pacific, while she also stepped into motherhood with two daughters. As workspace was limited during this time period, the focus for her creativity took her back into the Performance Arts and the Healing Arts. Her work with the Visual Arts was resumed in 2009.

Meanwhile, having become a chi kung instructor, a longing to experience and deepen her knowledge of energy work drew her to study homeopathy and learning to listen to plants. A total deepening, connecting and feeling of coming home came through an invitation to work as a healer in a Maori Wellness clinic. Work then became a learning ground through 'learning by being'.

In 2007, after settling on the land in Northland, New Zealand, she set up a small business – “Core Essence – Movement in Stillness, a holistic approach into the Arts”. This came to fruition when set up officially in 2012 and has been growing ever since.

In 2014 she joined a group exhibition, presenting work developed over the previous five years. And in 2016 she returned enriched and inspired back to the Netherlands. Since then her work has only gained strength and momentum. During the period April-May 2018 she became participant in the researchproject 'Like an Artist' set up for mid-career or older artists at the post-academic Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, the Netherlands.

She is strengthening the connection between New Zealand and the Netherlands and is establishing her work internationally.
